The new Facebook Timeline for pages is here. You can hold off until 30 March 2012, but if you want to change over now, there are a few new features that are worth noting.Whilst the default landing tab functionality is now gone, Facebook have added the ability to Pin a post to the top of your Face book fan page.What is a pinned Post?Pinned posts are posts on your Facebook fan page that you (or your administrator) have chosen as a post that you would like to feature, or display prominently at the top of your page.Where does a pinned Post appear?
A pinned post will always appear in the top left of the timeline of your Facebook fan page.You can recognise a pinned post by the orange flag in the top right hand corner:
How long will a pinned post stay at the top of a page?Any post that you (or your page administrator) pins to the top of your page will remain there for 7 days. After 7 days, the post will return to the date it was originally posted on your page timeline.
Which posts can you pin on a fan page?
Only posts created by the page administrators can be pinned.Posts from your fans (those that like your page) are not eligible and cannot be pinned on your page.
How do you create a pinned post?On your Facebook fan page timeline, choose the post you wish to pin to the top.Hover your mouse over the top right hand corner of the post and the pencil will appear with the options Edit or remove.
Click the pencil.The menu will now appear with the option to Pin to Top.Select Pin to Top.
Your post will now be pinned in the top most left position on your fan page timeline, immediately below the area to post a status update.
How to remove a pinned post from your timeline?Just do the reverse to the above when you pinned your post.Choose the post.Hover over the pencil in the top right hand corner, then select Edit or Remove.Choose Unpin From Top.
The post will move back to the original place on the timeline, based on the date it was first posted.The orange flag will also be removed from the top right hand corner.
So there you go. Now you can pin your favourate posts to the top of your fan page to encourage fan engagement and to showcase your latest thoughts and happenings on your page.
